Belfast-based PR firm proves that tighter budgets can bring out the best

With spending cuts and tighter budgets on both private & public sector agendas, a Belfast-based PR & Marketing Communications business is proving that some of the best results from PR programmes can be achieved during tough times.

MF Communication took top prize in the 'Best Campaign 10K and Under' at the 2010 CIPR Pride Awards. The agency was presented with a Gold Award for their media relations work on the Baileys Irish Champion Cow competition which was undertaken on behalf of their client, Diageo and its cream supplier Glanbia.  The agency generated 124 pieces of print coverage and 21 items of broadcast media coverage as well as extensive international uptake online over a nine week period in 2009 when the dairy sector and the wider economy were in turmoil.

Commenting  on their decision the CIPR judging panel said: "Working with an established campaign on a local level and in a difficult situation, it was impressive that the agency managed to attract such wide-spread media coverage. This included an impressive range at international, national and regional level, as well as primetime TV coverage. Overall, the campaign proved very successful in spite of the difficult conditions for the farming community."

As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of which Belfast based MF Communication is a member, we had the privilege to visit the Aras an Uachtarain and meet President Mary McAleese. The Guild was established as an all-island network of agricultural journalists and over the past 50 years has extended its membership to include those working in agri-business, agri-PR and agri-food sectors.
